SCUBA Diving

Tips for the new diver:

When buying your weights, go for the "soft" kind. They are a little more expensive, but worth the money because they are easier to transport and are more comfortable.

Do not expect to swim around like the divers you see on TV. At least not in the beginning. One important skill you will have to master is controlling your buoyancy. If you do not have control of you buoyancy, you will either sink to the bottom or float on the top. With time you should be able to "hover" in the water which is much more enjoyable then being out of control.

Equipment List and approximate prices:
Mask $56
Fins $70
Snorkel $15
Weights and weight belt $40
Wet Suit $120
Anti-fog solution $3
Open-water class will vary ($100 at Divers Supply in Southeast US)
Open-water certification trip will vary ($189 plus renting of BCD and regulator $30 at Divers Supply)
Total: $623
The rest of the equipment (BCD, regulator, and tank) I suggest you rent on a per day basis.
You will also need an equipment bag to carry all of this in.
